In ‘Yahi Kahoonga Unse’,Sukhvinder discovers his creative expression

Nothing comes close to the high Sukhvinder feels when words come together to transform into verses that the poet can feel. The act of creation is what makes the poet put down his thoughts anywhere and any time. “Bus,train, small bits of paper, blank space on newspaper pages,I’m not a fussy writer,’’ Sukhvinder talks about his first collection of poems titled,‘Yahi Kahoonga Unse’. Writing since he was a child, what’s Sukhvinder’s written over the years, almost 40 now,is part of this book. “When you are young, virhah, vyog, love…form the core of your poetry, but as the years go by,you look at life in a different light, perspectives change and the vision is broadened and it was no different with me,’’ Sukhvinder’s poetry got a new meaning with time,as he discusses social issues, tragedies, the Punjab situation, relationships, ultimately addressing it all to the God Divine in the poems. “Earlier,I had titled it ‘Yahi Kahoonga Usse’,but now I have many people to speak to,so ‘Unse’,’’ Sukhvinder doesn’t wait for inspiration or any time to write, his poetry is effortless.

While every poem is special, what’s closest to his heart is a subjective question. “For instance Chamche, which I’m even scared of reading has been appreciated by many. One of my favourites, and one I’m proud of is Main Azad Hun and also Main Kyun Likhun?’’ Creations of other poets, adds Sukhvinder,is a big inspiration, with Shiv Kumar Batalvi being closest to his heart…”Poetry is entirely yours and that’s what makes it so special.’’

Sukhvinder’s book will be released at the Punjab Kala Bhawan on November 21 at 6pm.
