Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab,Sukhbir Singh Badal,on Tuesday issued a directive to the Director General of Police PS Gill asking him to submit an action plan to check stagnation of the police personnel at the level of constabulary.
In a meeting of the police department,Badal said it was a matter of great concern that a constable was offered first promotion after 16 years of service and that too without any financial incentive.
He said that the DGP should submit an action plan within seven days to check stagnation at constable and ASI levels.
Stating that he has asked the finance department to clear the recruitment of 6,200 constables on the posts lying vacant after resultant promotions to higher level or retirement,Badal said that 7,827 people were promoted as Non Gazetted Officers (NGOs) from other ranks – highest in the last 65 years.
Meanwhile,Gill informed that after a recent departmental promotion committee meeting 156 Inspectors were promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
