The Punjab and Haryana High Court,on Monday, issued notices to UT Home Secretary,Chandigarh Administration and Police Complaints Authority (PCA) on a public interest litigation seeking more teeth for the PCA.

Notices have been issued on a PIL filed by Advocate Arvind Thakur who has demanded that PCA should be given powers to pass directions to the Chandigarh Police so that its (PCA’s) orders are implemented.

The petitioner has contended that the Chandigarh Police is not complying with the recommendations of PCA. Stating that PCA should not be reduced to a ‘complaint box’,the petitioner has sought directions in this regard.

The petitioner has also annexed various orders of PCA,ordering suspension against police officials, which have not been complied to by the Chandigarh Police. The petition was earlier filed before a vacation bench which had deferred the case.
