Perfect Frames

Joy,former photo-editor of The Tribune,came from a humble background and rose to eminence quickly,by virtue of his excellent work. In his formative years,he lectured at various institutions on photography. His published works include over 1,000 outstanding pictures pertaining to news and human interest stories in international newspapers,periodicals and books. “Our photojournalists work under trying circumstances,but despite their efforts,their efforts are marginalized when it comes to decisions related to developments in journalism,” says Sarabjit Pandher,president,Chandigarh Press Club.

A number of black and white works have been culled from Yog’s personal collection. There are images of Mother Teresa gazing at a new-born,of a mother feeding her child,a haunting photograph of a corpse hanging from a tree,another of a rag-picker staring in to the distance – each image is stark and often,touching.

Swadesh Talwar’s repertoire brings to mind the tumultuous days of terror in Punjab,with some rarely seen photographs like gunmen in the Golden Temple and the moving of the Takht- all shot during Operations Blue Star and Black Thunder.

Other photojournalists whose works are exhibited include,Karam Singh,Sanjeev Sharma,Rajnish Katyal,Balish Ahuja,Jaipal Singh and TS Bedi.

Newscapes is being exhibited at the Punjab Kala Bhawan,Sector 16,Chandigarh,from March 12 to 17.
