Several cases of missing or stolen cellphones and wallets are being reported at various police stations across the city. There has been a spurt of such cases during the festive season with people thronging the markets and misplacing either their phones or their wallets. Residents are facing problem in getting cases
registered as police claim that the complainants are not sure whether the items were stolen or have been misplaced in the rush.
A police official at Sector 19 police station said,Today (Saturday) we received 10 such cases and most of them are from those who have lost their mobile phones. Customers are losing their expensive phones and money in the mad rush.
Around 10 to 15 such cases were registered on Friday. Police claim that the cases being registered are not of stealing or snatching but of misplaced mobile phones. During such rush people usually tend to forget where they kept their cellphones or their wallets.
City markets should have installed CCTV cameras through which we could have located the thieves. People come and say that their mobile phones and wallets have been stolen but they are themselves not sure that whether they have misplaced it or somebody has stolen it,police said.
A police officer said that people have complained about children aged between 7 and 14 roaming in the markets who are indulging in such thefts. In Sector 17 one such case of snatching was reported. A woman registered a complaint after her bag was snatched that contained cash and mobile phones.
