PEC admission scam: 1 more held

A month after the Punjab Engineering College admission scam involving fraudulent admissions of students in the engineering institute came to light.

A month after the Punjab Engineering College (PEC) admission scam involving fraudulent admissions of students in the engineering institute came to light, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested another accomplice of the prime accused,Nishikant, from Hisar.

The accused,Mahinder Bajaj,is a resident of Hisar and conspired with the mastermind in getting the students admitted in PEC on the basis of forged Nepalese identity cards. The CBI also said that he has links with the NITK Surathkal, which made it easy for him to arrange the admissions as he knew the procedure well. He was arrested after the court rejected his anticipatory bail pleas after the expose. Another co-accused,Kishore Yadav,is still on the run.

Mahinder works as a dental surgeon in Hisar and is an old friend of Nishikant. Out of the 11 students arrested by the CBI on September 8,three were brought to Nishikant by Mahinder and the money that they took from the students was equally shared by them. Mahinder is married and has a daughter and three sons. The other accomplice Kishore Yadav,is also a resident of Hisar and used to work for Nishikant in arranging students for him. The CBI said he is being questioned and will be produced before court on Friday. The CBI had registered a case of forgery against 11 students of PEC last month who took admission in the college on the basis of forged Nepalese identification cards under a scheme meant for enrolling foreign students and NRIs.
