Rue children have lost interest in Board exams; taken away competitive streak
With the new grading system for Class X to be implemented from the ongoing academic session, several parents are expressing concern over children adopting a casual attitude towards exams. Many others are still not sure about the working of the new marking system.
This is a very common complaint this year. Parents say their wards are not serious about the Board exams and are not working hard as there wont be any marks to don their report cards, said Dr Rakesh Sachdeva, resource person for workshops conducted on the grading system by CBSE.
The toppers are not too much in favour of th new grading as it has taken away the streak of competitiveness from them. Students feel whatever grade they score, they will be put on a common platform, she added.
On their part, though, schools are conducting several counselling sessions for parents as well as students to make them aware of the new system.
This has also seen an increase in the number of parent-teacher meetings in some schools, which are holding these meetings weekly rather than on a monthly basis.
Schools have also been holding counselling sessions for students, but they maintain that it is the parents who are the worried lot.
As it is a new thing for them, there is confusion. They are worried about the admission criteria for higher classes, the percentile rank and overall assessment. We are trying to convince parents that the system is completely in favour of students, said Madhu Bahl,CBSE counsellor for the region.
Parents, though, are not sure how this would benefit students as many have already lost the interest in exams. My daughter, who would take the Board exam this year,is happy with the grading system as it has spared her the pain of studying hard. She has become lax towards academics because of this, said Rajneesh Gogia.
