Parents object to Rs 300 ‘processing fee’ for pre-nursery admissions

A number of parents today objected to the Rs 300 “processing fee” being charged during the submission of admission forms at Bhawan Vidyalaya School,Sector 33 for pre-nursery class.

A number of parents today objected to the Rs 300 “processing fee” being charged during the submission of admission forms at Bhawan Vidyalaya School,Sector 33 for pre-nursery class.

While the registration forms are being sold for Rs 100 each, the school has made it mandatory for the parents to pay Rs 300 at the time of submission.

Parents stated that the school was charging the fee without mentioning it anywhere in the prospectus or on the notice board.

One of the parents,on condition of anonymity said,“This is totally a money-making exercise. For a parent who can afford his child’s education in a private school,Rs 300 is a meagre amount.

But the question here is that the school is charging money in the name of setting up stalls and counters during draw of lots, that too without informing us in advance.”

The school, however, maintained that the management is going by the guidelines and consent of the UT Administration.

Prinicipal Taruna Vashist said,“As discussed with the UT officials we have sold the registration forms for Rs 100 each. Besides, the Rs 300 processing fee is being charged by our school for many years now and we have informed the Administration about it.”

She added,“The only difference here is that until last year,we used to charge the students for the entrance test, while this time we will be making arrangements for the draw of lots on December 24 which includes setting up stalls and food for our staff members.”

UT Education Secretary,V K Singh, meanwhile, said,“We only had a discussion with private schools regarding the sale of prospectus. The schools had agreed that purchasing the prospectus will not be made mandatory and the cost of prospectus will not be beyond Rs 500.

Singh added,”There was no such discussion over the processing fee.”
