While some parking lots received good response, for some there were no takers. Twenty-one contractors participated in the auction was organised by the district Red Cross at the Mini Secretariat in Sector 1.
Interestingly, the parking lot in Sector 7,which has the main market of the city, went for Rs 5,60,000,and the one in Sector 10 went for Rs 10 lakh.
The auction started around 3 pm and concluded late in the evening.
We received a good response for Sectors 1,7,8,9,10,11 and 20,but there were not many takers for Sectors 4,14,15 and 16. They will be taken up in the second phase of the auction, Panchkula DC Pankaj Yadav said. Also,no reserved price was fixed,as it was for the first time that an auction for parking lots was held. Now,the contractors have been asked to deposit 25 per cent of the total amount in two days and paid parking system will start in the city.
As we are completely new to this system,we will follow the paid parking system in Chandigarh. The rates will be same as there, Yadav added.
And if any irregularity is found on part of the contractors or the residents complain about them, the administration reserves the right to review or even cancel the contract.
Regular visitors to these parking lots will be given monthly passes.
