Salman Khan’s NGO Being Human Productions’ (SKBH) first co-production,Chillar Party will be the opening film at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Film Festival to be held in Toronto. A comedy that revolves around the lives of seven children,Chillar Party is a simple and heart-warming glimpse into the lives of a group of kids, who defeat all odds and prove their loyalty to their friend. The film has been co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala and SKBH Productions.

“Chillar Party is very close to my heart. The concept appealed to me and the children’s performances were absolutely endearing. This is the first film under SKBH Productions and we felt that there was no better place to screen the movie than at the IIFA Film Festival. For me,the festival falls under the category of home-ground and it can’t get bigger than IIFA in Toronto,” said Khan.

This year,IIFA has a special treat in store for its Indo-Canadian fan base with three days of high-octane entertainment and spell-binding motion pictures. Set to take place at theatres across the Greater Toronto Area, beginning June 24,the IIFA Film Festival has been designed keeping in mind the Punjabi population across Toronto,Markham,Brampton and Mississuaga — four cities — where the screenings will take place. Therefore, the assortment of films are a mix of classics and blockbusters from Bollywood, with almost 20 of them based in and around Punjab.

Not only this, the Government of Ontario and Premier Dalton McGuinty have appointed the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel — a mentoring organisation for children and youth as the charity of choice for support throughout the IIFA Weekend in Toronto in 2011. IIFA will be working with Indian film celebrities to be introduced as ‘honorary big brother & big sister’ volunteers. Apart from this,in keeping with the World Environment Day celebrations,IIFA has tied up with the United Nations Environment Programme,(UNEP) in order to strengthen its commitment to saving the environment.
