Cafe Kaffee Kuchh is back with the second edition of Garage Film Festival

Bring your own film and screen it for public viewing — that’s the motto of the Garage Film Festival, which enters its second year on October 30 and 31. A brainchild of Cafe Kaffee Kuchh and Gaurav Chhabra,a Chandigarh-based filmmaker and activist, the Garage Film Festival is a platform for professionals and amateurs from Chandigarh to showcase their short films and engage with each other and the audience. It is also an attempt to explore alternative spaces.

“There is no entry fee,and it’s a non-competitive event. After the screening, filmmakers will interact with the audience about their work,” says coordinator Sukhmani Chani. This year, expect a mixed bag. “From witty shorts to satirical takes to playful abandon, the films cut across age, language, cultures and many other barriers only to emerge as thoughtful and engaging. Some of them ask important questions whereas others explore personal stories to answer those questions. The filmmakers range from students to professionals. There is also a play of different mediums, ranging from puppetry to new media,” says Chani.

But no discussion is complete without chai or coffee — reason enough to choose Cafe Kaffee Kuchh as the venue. For the uninitiated,Cafe Kaffee Kuchh is a community cafe run by volunteers,a non-profit activity that happens every Sunday at Lala Lajpat Rai Bhawan,Sector 15,Chandigarh. It’s time to sit back, cozy up with a cuppa and enjoy the stories unfolding on the screen.
