Councillor Pardeep Chhabra along with Municipal Commissioner and other officials conducted a check at the Sector 17 plaza in order to inspect ongoing work on Thursday. Concretisation of the plaza near bridge market was undertaken a few years ago, however, the project has been facing roadblocks.
The areas that have not been laid with concrete will now have landscaping and beautification done on them. The shopkeepers of bridge market, however, often complain about the lack of attention given to the area due to which it does not attract many customers.
The work for improvement and development of existing infrastructure in Sector 17 A and B was approved in 2008. An amount of around Rs 4 crore was sanctioned and the aim was to attract tourists and customer not just to the plaza but the area in general.
Thereafter tenders were invited thrice for the civil work with no success. The agency that won the tender during the fourth auction failed to start work and the earnest money was forfeited. The tenders were then re-invited. The contractor began the work, but then due to a cement scam that came to light in March work was halted once again.
