It’s that time of the year again when resolutions are made & going by what everyone’s telling us,health & happiness top the city’s list
A few years ago,I remember chiding a friend on New Year’s eve for the fuss she was creating about me not having a New Year resolution that I could list along with everyone else’s. Her logic was simple: It’s a New Year so there has to be a new resolution for all of us to work towards fulfilling in the months ahead. So far,she had stuck to all of her resolves that included the likes of losing weight, saving money and yes, visiting the dentist every three months! Each year as the night of December 31 closes in,I am reminded of my friend and her will power. She made each of those resolves and fulfilled them with aplomb. No wonder, she needed a new resolution each time! As for me,it’s been almost a decade now since I have been willing myself to lead a healthier (read thinner) and content life where I sulk less, smile more! What is it about the first week of January that gets all of us to retrospect and then resolve to achieve what we haven’t so far? Perhaps it’s about moving ahead in life, closing a chapter, opening a new one and then flipping back the pages to find out whether we’ve made any progress at all! So here we are again. It’s a brand new year and fourth day into January,we ask around on the resolutions doing the rounds.
First up is entrepreneur AP Singh of Besten & Co who lists his rather poignant take. “My resolve for 2010 is to work towards better health and manage my emotions more effectively for better relationships,” he says. Elsewhere,Ashita Sondhi of the fashion studio,Bling Bling is already hitting a high note. “I have welcomed the New Year with the hope to make this year greener, happier and warmer than ever before not just for me but for everyone,” she smiles to say.
While the list for resolutions will never be complete without someone mentioning something about losing weight (like me),this year the cliches have been done away. Like interior designer Anu Bains whose New Year resolution is to take out “more time for myself”. And she intends to do that by getting back to her charcoal sketching, reading and by helping at least two people who are less fortunate than her. Also resolving for others is Aman Arora of Adfactors PR who says,”My resolution is to be happy and to make others happy even in tough situations.” Ditto for INIFD’s Vice-President Aditi Srivastava who chips in,”My resolution is to be happy and have a blast as life is short-lived and one should optimise every moment in being happy and making others around us happy.”
Also motivated to keep his “decade long” resolve is Arshad Khan who wants to “score a perfect 10 in the 20’s. The motivating resolution for me this decade is ‘what can’t be done, must be done’.”
Speaking of resolutions that also work as definitive goals,PR consultant and Executive Performance Coach,Charanjit Singh wants to “work more consistently to prepare grounds for accreditation procedures for the PR practitioners in the country.” That apart he’s looking to complete his book project in 2010.
For those of you who have been discontent all of last year,Rameet Bakshi,a Mohali-based chocolatier who runs Crown Chocolates, has a befitting resolution. She says,”Don’t struggle so much as best things happen when least expected.” On the personal front,city-based film producer Amarjeet Singh looks back at the year gone by that has taught him a lesson. “Last year I was lenient and this year I would be more firm on issues, otherwise one can’t achieve one’s goal.” In the line-up of must-resolve-to-do-lists is young Fateh Veer Singh who is looking to get inked for sure. “I have been wanting to get a zodiac sign tattoo for long and this year I’ll make sure I do it!”
Given her past record (and mine too),Montblanc’s boutique manager Anaheeta Mehra feels,”Resolutions never work!” But on second thoughts she’s planning to hit the gym and so am I. So until next year, let’s just keep the faith, shall we?
