A new-design fence is being constructed on the international border with Pakistan to strengthen the anti-infiltration grid, a senior Border Security Force (BSF) official said Sunday.

Addressing a press conference on the raising day of BSF, Additional Director General of BSF’s Western Command Satish S Khandare said, “The fence has become quite old, so a new-design fence is being constructed to strengthen the anti-infiltration grid…vulnerable patches are being manned by PTZ (Pan-tilt-zoom) cameras, CCTV cameras and there is command and control centre where all these vulnerable patches are monitored 24×7 by our people.”

The ADG said drone seizures along the International Border in Punjab this year until November were the highest. He said the force is alive to the threat and measures like deploying anti-drone systems to neutralise illicit drones are being taken. Notably, Pakistani syndicates were pushing narcotics and weapons using drones. “As far as drone recovery is concerned, in the entire Western Command, we were able to recover 250 drones till now… Out of 250 drones, maximum recovery of 242 was in Punjab, six in Rajasthan and two in Jammu,” Khandare said.
