Organic products, natural therapies, spas in and around the city are working towards more earthy solutions for the body and mind
Ronald Jean,MD,Pevonia Global Consulting group is rather poetic when it comes to describing his profession. Its about a temple that celebrates being human through complete treatments for the mind, body and soul, he smiles. His colleague Philippe Hennessey, founder and owner of Pevonia Botanica USA ,agrees. Their spa at Headmasters,in Sector 8,Chandigarh has long come to be associated with excellence, and for the use of organic products, and even the latest range of teen spa products that they were here to launch recently,is based on the philosophy. Its difficult to have a completely organic product, but we try the best that is possible. Of course, one needs preservatives in a product, but for us,its black berries, for instance, which have been handily substituted as one, grins Hennessey.
The organic trend seems to have caught on elsewhere in the city as well. Tajs in-house spa, called The Spa,which provides just about five services, are all organic and natural in nature. They are priced at Rs 2,000 per therapy. At Moksha Himalaya Spa Resort, nestled in Banasar,Parwanoo,a
40 minute drive from Chandigarh ,the onus is on the use of Himalayan herbs and freshly prepared products from organically-grown fruits and vegetables. The reason we stress on organic products is because they are not made from products treated with pesticides. Weve reinvented the old system of treatment and therapy. People come to us looking for complete relaxation and de-stressing solutions, and all the 59 therapies we have on offer, provide just that, says Nainee Garg,Joint Managing Director of the two-month-old spa, where treatments start at Rs 3000 on an average.
Munish Bajajs The Seven Seas Spa in Sector 8,Chandigarh is a refreshing change, especially on the pocket. We have our treatments starting at Rs 750, quips,Dr Madan, also the manager of the spa. Here the customer has a clinical check-up,where her medical history is examined, her blood pressure and skin monitored, before the spa services begin. Spa is not just about relaxation, its a passive exercise for the whole body and it has a scientific approach to it. Its very essential to work on the pressure points, says Dr Madan. The treatments here too,are based on vegetables and fruits. Usually a treatment once a week does the trick, but one should do it more frequently past the age of 40, he says.
