In Gurdaspur, PM Modi talks about the Sikh connection with Ram Temple and Kashi Vishwanath
While lashing out at the Congress party, PM Modi also accused the Opposition party of Sikh genocide.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses a public meeting for Lok Sabha elections, in Gurdaspur, Friday, May 24, 2024. (PTI Photo)Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday once again brought up the Ram Temple issue in his election speech in Punjab as he said during a Lok Sabha election rally in Gurdaspur that Sikhs have contributed to the construction of the shrine in Ayodhya.
While addressing the crowd in Dinanagar, PM Modi said, “The first person who started the fight for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya was a Sikh of our country. The descendent of that person was also present in a Ram Temple-related function. This is the contribution of Sikhs in our country. The leaders of the INDI alliance are saying that the Ram Temple is unholy. You must tell me if such people won’t attack the identity of Punjab. We have to give a befitting reply to such people on voting day,” said Modi from the stage where the BJP’s Gurdaspur candidate Dinesh Singh Babbu, Amritsar candidate Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Hoshiarpur candidate Anita Som Parkash were also present.
Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Prime Minister said, “Shehzada’s master has said the identity of India is in danger due to the construction of Ram Temple and celebration of Ram Navmi. The Congress party boycotted the celebration of Ram Temple”.
Modi also said as a Member of Parliament representing Kashi, he always bows his head to Maharaja Ranjit Singh for the gold plating that he offered for the dome of Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
He also accused Congress of the genocide of Sikhs. “INDI alliance has given deep wounds to Punjab. What Congress has not done in Punjab. It gave the wound of Partition, air to secretism in Punjab, and carried out the genocide of Sikhs in Delhi. Congress even saved the culprits of the Sikh genocide. Modi opened the files of culprits and punishments were served to the accused,” said the Prime Minister.
“INDI alliance is a big threat to the nation. Congress is talking about Article 370 in Kashmir. It wants separatism back in Kashmir and again wants to give peace messages to Pakistan. The party will give them flowers and Pakistan will keep exploding bombs. Congress will say we need to talk with Pakistan. Congress leaders are already making grounds for that. They are saying that Pakistan has an atom bomb. Isn’t it an argument to laugh at? They tell us that we need to be afraid of Pakistan. They have forgotten it is new India that enters the enemy’s home to kill.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party has replaced sitting MP Sunny Deol with Dinesh Singh in Gurdaspur, where Lok Sabha elections will be held along with 12 other constituencies in the seventh phase on June 1.
‘Do you want the Punjab govt to run from jail?’
PM Modi did not mention former Punjab chief minister and BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh during his rally in Patiala on Thursday. However, he said on Friday, “When it comes to national interest, the Congress party will be standing last. When Congress was in power in the state then they wanted to run a government with remote control. But Captain Amarinder Singh declined to follow the order. He gave preference to national security. Congress removed him from the post of CM. Can anyone forget this insult?”
Then he attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for running the state from Delhi. “Now, Delhi Darbaris are running Punjab with a remote control again. Punjab CM (Bhagwant Singh Mann) cannot make even one decision on his own. His owner was in jail and the Punjab government came to a standstill. Punjab CM had to go to jail to take orders to run the government. He went to jail to show his report card. Do you know ‘kattar bhrashtrachari’ will go to jail? Then again Punjab government will run from jail. Do you agree with this? Isn’t this an insult to Punjab?” he asked the crowd.
While he did not mention sitting MP Sunny Deol, he remembered Bollywood star Vinod Khanna for his contribution to Gurdaspur. “The relationship between Gurdaspur and the BJP is special. I have worked in Punjab. Vinod Khanna was my good friend and we worked together. Vinod Khanna was linked to the ground and he knew the minor details about his constituency. His contribution is still remembered.”
“Ask 100 people on the train about who is going to form the government, 90 will say Modi. So no one would like to waste the vote. I request Punjab’s people to not let their vote be wasted. Give your vote to the BJP. Our government is surely forming,” said Modi.
“To get Punjab out of the current situation, I want to ask the people of Punjab to vote to get more and more MPs from the state. You vote and I will live for your dreams for five years. Your dreams will be my aims. My every second is for you,” he said.
