The Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs),installed at 20 intersections in the city, will soon support the police in tracking stolen vehicles. The control room has ordered a special software, which will not only identify the registration number of a stolen vehicle but also alert the control room about it. Inspector General of Police Shanti Kumar Jain said: We have asked the engineering department to include the facility in all cameras under the CCTV project. It would certainly act as a deterrent for vehicle lifters. The facility would be of extreme help if a person informs the police of the theft within minutes. Sources said a database of the registration numbers of stolen vehicles would be uploaded in the control room system which monitors CCTV cameras. The software would keep scanning the registration numbers of stolen vehicles. Whenever it comes across a registration number matching the one in the list,an alarm will sound in the control room. Further, the cameras on the route will start tracking the vehicle and alert the cops about its movement, said the source.
