Museum guide booked for sexual harassment

A guide-cum-in-charge of the City Museum in Sector 10 was booked for molesting a colleague on Wednesday. The police arrested 46-year-old Parkash Chand Sharma on a complaint filed by the 19-year-old victim. She had joined the museum as an attendant on Tuesday.

The victim is a BCom first-year student of Government College,Sector 46,and is a resident of Sector 37. She said there were openings for the post of gallery attendant in the museum and had accordingly applied. On the pretext of congratulating her,her employer touched her inappropriately and even asked her to come to office in Western wear,she alleged. To this,she objected and left the office.

But on Wednesday,when she reported on duty,Parkash,taking advantage of the situation,molested her. The girl then called her father,who reached the museum and later informed the police.

On the victim’s complaint,Sharma,a resident of Sector 23,was arrested. However,he was later released on bail.

The police have registered a case of sexual harassment under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code,although the accused denied all charges levelled against him and said he was being framed.
