Naveen Arora, 32, son of senior RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora, was shot on November 15. (File Photo)A key accused in the murder of an RSS volunteer was killed during a shootout Thursday when his two accomplices tried to free him from police custody at Mamu Joya village in Fazilka, police said.
Badal of Basti Bhattian, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the November 15 incident in which RSS volunteer Naveen Arora, the son of RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora, was shot dead by two motorcycle riders in Ferozepur. The shootout took place when a Ferozepur police team reached the area to recover weapons used in Arora’s murder.
DIG Ferozepur range Harmanbir Singh said that Badal revealed about his two accomplices identified as Raju and Sonu.“We arrested Badal, the shooter, from Zira area of Ferozepur district on Wednesday afternoon following a tip off. Interrogation revealed that he was to enter Rajasthan via Fazilka and two of his accomplices were helping him. When we took him to the location in Mamu Joya village, his accomplices started firing at the police party and we too fired in retaliation. Around 20 rounds were fired, including 11 by the two shooters who were in hiding in the nearby cremation ground. We recovered one 0.30 bore and 0.32 bore unlicensed pistols too from the occasion which were used by the shooters who managed to flee because of heavy fog in the morning,” he said.
He added that Badal’s aides fired at police in which head constable Balaur Singh got injured in the arm. “Badal was also injured in the shootout. Both Balaur and Badal were admitted to Fazilka civil hospital around 6.17 am and Badal succumbed to his injuries around 7 am,” he said, adding that the two accomplices who opened fire at police party escaped.
A case of murder, attempt to murder and under sections of the Arms Act has been lodged against Monu and Raju. DIG Harmanbir Singh said further investigation in the case was underway.
