A murder convict of Ambala Central Jail escaped from police custody at PGI in the wee hours on Saturday. Raju,a 32-year-old murder convict,was brought to PGI in the custody of two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) after he had claimed that he was having chest pain.
Raju was asked by the PGI authorities to undergo an ultrasound test,for which the police officers had opened his handcuffs. He was in the emergency when he escaped. Raju,a native of Ambala district,was convicted in a murder case six months ago along with two others and was brought to PGI in a private vehicle.
Sector 11 police station Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Gurmukh Singh said that a case of negligence has been registered against ASIs Krishan Kumar and Zora Singh and they have been arrested. The duo were later released on bail.
A detailed report of the entire incident has been forwarded to Ambala Central Jail authorities. Police sources said that the two police officers will soon be placed under suspension for negligence. A case of negligence has been registered at the Sector 11 police Station.
