Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) created an upset of sorts in the ongoing 19th All India JP Atray cricket tournament being played for Pearls Trophy,by knocking out defending champions Punjab Cricket Club (PCC) out of the competition in a match at PCA stadium in Mohali.
MPCA recorded a three-wicket win over PCC to continue their good form. Winning the toss,MPCA invited PCC to bat first and restricted them on 228 runs in 48.1 overs.
Swashbuckling batsman Gukirat Mann contributed with a fine knock of 57 runs while Manish Bhatia slammed 42 runs to give PCC the launching pad. After their fall,PCC got into trouble and were at 162 for the loss of five wickets in 36 overs.
From there on,somehow PCC could not recover and lost the plot completely.
Eventually they were bowled out for 228 runs. For MPCA,Gaurav Yadav (3 for 47) and Rameez Khan (3 for 45) bowled well to put PCC on the backfoot. In reply,MPCA were determined to achieve the target,that too with the bonus point in order to stay aloft in the tournament.
Riding high on Anand Singh’s superb 70-ball knock of 69 runs,MPCA won the match in the 40th over and also bagged the bonus point. Anand was ably supported by Salman Beg who scored 39 runs off 22 balls. Rameez Khan (34),Amithpal (23) and Udit Birla (21) were the other contributors with the bat for MPCA. Left-arm spinner Rajwinder Golu (3 for 51) and medium-pacer Harmeet Bansal (2 for 68) were the main wicket takers for PCC.

DDCA beat Maruti Suzuki
DESPITE Amardeep Sonkar’s impressive all-round performance (83 runs and 4 for 50),his team Maruti Suzuki lost to Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) by two wickets in a thrilling match played at GMSSS,Sector 26,Chandigarh.
With this win,DDCA climbed up to the top spot in Pool B. Maruti Suzuki set a target of 291 runs to achieve. DDCA achieved the target with just one ball to spare.The highlight of the Maruti Suzuki’s innings was the second wicket partnership of 124 runs between Mayank Aggarwal and Amardeep Sonka that set the tone for their team. Both took the team innings to 145 for 2.
Mayank Aggarwal departed on 88 runs off 71 balls. Thereafter Sangram Singh and Amardeep Sonkar added 47 runs for the third wicket.
Amardeep was clean bowled by Nitish Rana for 83 runs. Skipper Yash Pal Singh also added a quick fire knock of 47 runs to propel his team.
Maruti Suzuki innings ended at 291 for 9 in 50 overs. Rishit Saini (3 for 55) and Manan Sharma (2 for 60) were the main wicket takers for DDCA.
Replying DDCA scored 292 for 8 in 49.5 overs. Arjun Gupta scored the highest 68 runs while Nitish Rana made 45 runs for the winning team.
At one stage DDCA were 269 for 8 in 47.5 overs. Then came Varun Sood in the picture who played an unbeaten knock of 34 runs to enable DDCA win the match. Amardeep Sonkar
bagged four wickets,giving away 50 runs. Amardeep Sonkar was named man of the match.

BPCL routs FCI IN the third match played at DAV School Sector 8,BPCL defeated All India FCI by 31 runs. Winning the toss BPCL opted to bat and scored 214 runs for 9 in 50 overs. K.Onkar scored 61 runs off 92 balls,while N.Sorabh made unbeaten 37 runs to steady the ship for BPCL. T.Bhavin and K.Onkar shared an opening partnership of 74 runs in 19.2 overs.
Replying FCI were bowled out for 183 runs in 46.1 overs. H.Vikash (62) and S. Dahiya (57) were the principal run getters for FCI. For BPCL,A.Kiran (4 for 22) and B.Rajesh (3 for 23),were the main wicket takers.
K.Onkar was named man of the match.

PCA Colts sail through
WHILE one Punjab team was knocked out of the tournament,the other of its team PCA Colts kept the hopes alive by beating Baroda by 74 runs in a match played at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala. With this win,PCA Colts captured five points. Batting first,PCA Colts made a daunting total of 283 runs for the loss of three wickets in 50 overs. For the Colts,Jeewanjot (89) and Gurkirat Walia (83 no) hammered runs.
Himanshu Chawal also chipped in with 57 runs to propel the Colts innings.
Batting second,Baroda fell short off the target and could score mere 209 runs for 7 in 50 overs. Jagnesh Sapkal emerged as the highest scorer for Baroda making 78 runs.
For PCA Colts,Yogesh Kumar (3 for 21) and Deepak Bansal (2 for 43) were the main wicket takers. Gurkirat Walia was named man of the match.
