Author, filmmaker and social commentator, the late K Bikram Singh took the road less travelled and made an impact with his range of works. Apart from a television series on environment and rural development called Srijan; and a documentary of Anna Hazare’s work on regenerating greenery in his village in Kahin Ek Gaon,Singh had turned the camera on Indian art and artists. One such film,Contemporary Indian Painting,is being screened by the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi today. Produced and directed by Singh, the film takes a look at Indian paintings from the mid 19th century to 1985. It explores the responses of Indian painters to major historical events and changing social realities. At 76 minutes, the film has English commentary by Girish Karnad. It’s been edited by Munna Rizvi, while the music has been given by Louis Banks and camera work by A K Bir.

The film will be screened at the auditorium of Government Museum & Art Gallery,Sector 10 at 5 pm EFS
