Mohali police arrests NDPS Act accused on the run for 3 years

Accused had fled after getting bail in opium recovery case; nabbed from Patiala

The Mohali police has arrested an absconding accused wanted in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case, nearly three years after he went underground.

The accused has been identified as Narinderjit Singh, alias Nindi, a resident of Daun Khurd village, Patiala district. A case against him was registered in 2022 at Handesra police station under sections 18, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act after 200 grams of opium was recovered from his possession.

According to police officials, Narinderjit Singh was sent to jail following his arrest but went absconding after being released on bail, failing to appear before the court. Subsequently, he was declared a proclaimed offender (PO) by the court and had been evading arrest ever since.

Under the directions of SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans, the Mohali police has been conducting a sustained drive against criminal elements and absconders. As part of this initiative, a dedicated PO staff has been constituted to track down and apprehend proclaimed offenders.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Inspector Saurav Jindal (SP Investigation) and DSP Naveenpal Singh Lahal (Special Crimes), along with SI Balwinder Singh, successfully arrested Narinderjit Singh from Patiala.

After his arrest, the accused was produced before the district court, which remanded him in judicial custody.

Police officials stated that efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest other proclaimed offenders operating in and around the district.
