Mohali MC boundary expansion: Commissioner summons over 50 objectorsMunicipal officials claim that expansion will ensure better civic amenities and faster development in newly added areas.

Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh Sandhu has scheduled a personal hearing for all those who submitted objections and suggestions on the expansion of the boundaries of the Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC).

The hearing will take place on November 20 at the Local Government Department’s auditorium in Sector 35-A at 3 pm, with reporting time fixed at 2.45 pm.

In his communication, the Commissioner has made it clear that each area should send only one or two representatives to avoid overcrowding and ensure that every objection is heard in detail. So far, over 50 residents and organisations have submitted written objections, reflecting the anxiety and confusion triggered among citizens after the government issued its notification.

In October, the Punjab government released a fresh notification proposing the inclusion of several rapidly developing areas such as Aerocity, IT City, Sector 81, Sector 82 into the Mohali MC limits. While many residents hope this move will bring improved urban services, others have raised concerns regarding infrastructure capacity, taxation, and future regulatory implications.

Adding urgency to the process, the Registrar General of India has mandated that all administrative boundary changes for the upcoming national census must be finalised by December 31.

Municipal officials claim that expansion will ensure better civic amenities and faster development in newly added areas. However, objectors argue that the government must fully consider public concerns and ground realities before finalising any decision.

All eyes are now on the November 20 hearing, where the Local Government Department will listen to the arguments of objectors before taking a final call.
