‘Mohali master plan to solve traffic,parking woes’

The state government plans to prepare a blueprint to meticulously solve the increasing problem of vehicular traffic and lack of parking space in Mohali,said Patiala Divisional Commissioner Jasbir Singh Bir at a high-level meeting held to review the working of five districts in Mohali late on Friday evening.

Bir said that since the state government was committed to develop Mohali as a ‘Future City’ with infrastructure and facilities at par with international standards,work was on to prepare a special masterplan to solve the problem of increasing traffic and parking blues in Mohali.

He also declared that a AC radio taxi service would be launched in Mohali soon on the lines of the ones in Chandigarh and Ludhiana.   The round-the-clock service would be equipped with the latest GPRS technology.

Earlier,Mohali Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand and SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar apprised the Divisional Commissioner about the aggravating problem of traffic in the city and suggested the provision of multi-storey parking lots besides notifying the silence zone areas and taking necessary speed control measures on major internal and outer roads of the city.

Bir assured to forward the observations to the state government for consideration during the preparation of a masterplan.

Later,addressing a meeting of deputy commissioners of Mohali,Patiala,Ludhiana,Fatehgarh Sahib,Sangrur,Ropar and Barnala,falling under the Patiala Division,Bir gave them directions to bring transparency in working of their respective district administrations besides vacating shamlat (common) lands from illegal possessions.

Bir also directed the DCs to launch a special anti-encroachment drive.

Bir also inaugurated the newly constructed committee room in the District Administrative Complex in Phase I here.
