A resident of Nayagaon,Mohali,was arrested by the UT Police on Thursday night after a student of GMCH,Sector 32 had reported that the accused had allegedly attempted to rape her. Gurvinder Singh alias Sonu Bajwa,28,was produced in the court and has been remanded to judicial custody.
According to the complaint,the victim had met the accused at a modeling assignment at an event. At the event as well,Bajwa had allegedly outraged her modesty. He allegedly continued for 8 days and then attempted to rape her. Following this,the victim approached the police with her parents and made a complaint, said a police official.
The official added that Bajwa was called to the police station Thursday evening. When Bajwa was called to the police station,he denied all claims made by the woman. However,when he was confronted with the victim who started to question him by showing him the call records and other minute details,he had nothing to say in his defense, the official said.
The accused was arrested under Sections 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman),376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Police said that the woman refused to undergo medical examination.
Meanwhile,another complaint was received by the UT Police from another student of the GMCH-32 against a 31-year-old MD student,Dr Rajan Jain. The complainant had alleged that the accused,whom she knew,had started sending lewd messages to her soon after she got engaged to some other person.
Not only was Jain bothering the victim,he even started sending messages to the in-laws of the victim. Following this the victim approached the police, said a senior police official.
Jain had been living in the college hostel but is absconding since the complaint was registered. RS Ghumman,the officer in-charge of the Womens Cell said,We have sealed the hostel room of the accused and are gathering all the related evidence. Rajan Jain hails from Bhiwani,Haryana. A police team has been sent to his hometown to arrest the accused.
Jain has been booked under Sections 354 A (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Section 66 of the IT Act,2000.
