The Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC), Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and the electricity department are planning to lay high-voltage power lines underground. A grant of Rs 41 crore will soon be released for the same.
The decision was taken following demands of the residents to make the city free of electric poles.
A meeting to discuss the modalities of the plan was held, which was chaired by Anandpur Sahib MP Professor Prem Singh Chandumajra.

An official of the electricity department said the meeting was held to discuss grants under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna scheme. The official also said that a grant worth Rs 41 crore had been sanctioned to the concerned departments to fund the laying of power lines underground. The project will soon gather pace, he added.
A GMADA official said that all high-voltage power lines in Aero City had been shifted and the work to lay some of the lines underground would soon be started there.
