Mohali: 15 booked for ‘attacking’ Assistant Sub-Inspector and constable

Those booked have been identified as Sonu, Sahir, Salim, Sohail, Haroon, Nazim, Shahbaaz and their eight unidentified accomplices.

The Derabassi police booked at least 15 people who had allegedly attacked an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a constable. Police booked the accused for attempt to murder.

Those booked have been identified as Sonu, Sahir, Salim, Sohail, Haroon, Nazim, Shahbaaz and their eight unidentified accomplices.

Derabassi Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dr Darpan Ahluwalia said that ASI Gaurav Sharma stated in the complaint that he along with head constable Sharat Chandra were rescuing a man who was attacked by the accused in Mubarikpur area on May 16.

She added that the accused had attacked the policemen (who were wearing plain clothes over their uniform) with sharp-edged weapons.

“ASI Gaurav Sharma and Ct Sharat both have gone beyond call of duty. They were in private vehicles and wearing civilian shirt over uniform, and were out for some work at 11 pm,” she added.

ASP Ahluwalia said that ASI Gurav single-handedly rescued one victim from 15 gang members despite the latter being armed with swords and lathis.

A case under various sections of the IPC has been lodged.
