(File)A 19-year-old from Moga allegedly hired a contract killer on social media app Instagram to eliminate a person who was in possession of his objectionable videos with his girlfriend and had been “blackmailing” him, Moga police Wednesday said. The contract killer was paid Rs 4,000 in cash and given a mobile phone by the prime accused, they added.
Police said that the body of Gurmukh Singh alias Sunil (22), of Moga’s Singhawala was found dumped in a drain near Bukkanwala on the night of September 16. He was strangled to death with a piece of cloth and his throat was slit with a knife.
SSP Ankur Gupta said that during investigation it was found that Gurmukh Singh was in possession of some objectionable videos of the 19-year-old accused. Gurmukh had reportedly been “blackmailing” the youth on the basis of those videos and was threatening to make them public.

On September 15, Gurlal and an accomplice Onkar Singh (20)m reached Singhawala via bus and reached a designated spot. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old called Gurmukh to the drain near Bukkanwala on the pretext of having liquor.
All of them consumed liquor together. Soon, Onkar threw chilli powder in Gurmukh’s eyes and strangled him with a piece of cloth. Gurlal then slit his throat with a knife, said police.
They then dumped the body in the drain. Gurlal and Onkar took bike of the deceased and left for Tarn Taran. They were given Rs 4,000 in cash and a mobile phone by the 19-year-old youth for executing the murder, said police.
All three accused have been arrested, said police. The FIR has been registered for murder under the sections 103, 238, 3 (5) of BNS at City South Moga police station.
