He’s at equal ease on the ramp,as he’s in the police station. Model, choreographer and Haryana police cop Malkeet Singh, better known as Raj can make you dance to his tunes and also guide you about traffic rules. And he loves his two different worlds making sure he plays his part to perfection and striving to achieve a perfect balance. Chosen for Grasim Mr India ,Raj was among the first eight selected from the region for Gladrags Mr India and has played lead roles in a number of well-known and foot-tapping Punjabi music videos and is these days busy choreographing the moves of the dancers of his group Raj Art Promoters, for a big performance. “It was my determination that made me follow my dream. I’ve been regularly participating in various modelling and dance competitions at school and college level and I was twenty when I won the second prize in the Mr and Miss Valentines show,” recalls Raj,who adds that he entered the Gladrags Mr India contest just for fun. “My life changed the moment I was selected and I have not looked back ever since.
Modelling assignments got him a number of Punjabi albums and also a chance to choreograph various shows. “I faced a major setback when I lost my father, who was on a deputation with the Chandigarh police and I had to join the Haryana police to keep the finances flowing. It was my father’s wish to see me as a successful model and gave me the strength to continue modelling, despite joining the police force,” agrees Raj.
Each day poses a new challenge, admits Raj as policing and modelling are poles apart,”while modelling requires constant grooming, maintenance and endless effort to loom good,as a police person I have to be out in the sun for hours and making sure I am alert 24 hours,” Raj gets back to work.
