From god to gold and streets to serenity,The Collectives is about myriad reflections on canvas,in stone and through the lens. The group show that is currenty on at Art Portfolio gallery in the city has 10 artists from across the country showcasing their thoughts in their chosen mediums. Ankush Safaya,an abstract artist, who works in acrylic and oil on canvas, has used thick layers of colour to give a duality to his work as seen in Gold Rush. Here, the artist has used streams of dull yellow on black, giving the work a vertical motion. Pradeep Vermas paintings present Buddha in varied shades.
On the other hand,SC Ahujas sculptures in black metal depict an old man in a comfortable chair, walking with a stick, while C Vishwa has worked with ceramics to create masks. His has used ceramic and stoneware to give form to a sculpture called Hum Tum 2,with two faces in opposite direction. An interesting work by Vishwa is that of four heads and faces with different expressions. Idris Ahmeds photographs,Holi in Brij, are arresting,as he has played with orange and red to capture movement and stillness. Another artist,Matthew Kurien has used the technique of cut-outs in his photographic series Soulless Cutouts to depict the street in a place abroad.
The show is on at Art Portfolio,Sector 9,till May 14
