Melting Po(in)t

High Point,a new multi-cuisine restaurant in the city, offers an interesting platter for the diners.

This particular property in the heart of Sector 17 has housed varied businesses — from an airline office to a high-end steel accessories store — and now in its latest avatar,SCO 170-171 is High Point,a fine-dining multi-cuisine restaurant, which was recently rolled out by Hot Millions, one of the oldest names in the region’s hospitality business.

Given the fact that it’s been a while since the group opened a new place after their last Indian-themed restaurant called AB’s,High Point is different. Though named after their American casual dining bistro in New York, the Chandigarh version is a fine-diner,and boasts of 116 covers. The interiors are contemporary and the woody tones don’t reflect any one theme or reference point for the cuisine on offer. Though the cubicles partitioned by latticed screens on one side of the restaurant are cosy and inviting, the buffet area on the other end looked a tad tight.

Finding a corner for ourselves,we spent a while scanning the menu that seems to follow the current trend of choosing to lay out a spread of multi-cuisines,something followed by most new restaurants in the city who cater largely to families. The menu at High Point brings in popular favourites like cheese doner kebabs and makhmali murg malai in the line-up of appetisers. A variety of pastas, pizza, steak and sizzlers find a place alongside dishes like chilli garlic prawns, black olive chicken steak,Rajasthani laal maas, lamb vindaloo and Mandarin fish.

The menu boasts of a melting pot of cuisines — from Indian to Continental — and that’s why we chose to make the most of the lunch buffet on offer. Priced at Rs 345 for a non-vegetarian buffet, there is actually quite a spread on offer. We begin with a bouquet of cold salads. But the high point of the lunch is the four cheese lasagna as well as the mutton korma. Though super spicy ,it was bursting with flavours. Equally well done was the grilled sole fillet with baby tomatoes that was a part of the buffet and had us lining up for a second helping. It was disappointing not to find any Pan Asian cuisine in the lunch buffet spread though, which we are told, will be introduced on set days.

The desserts have been paid special attention with unusual additions like apple crisp, grilled pineapple with whipped cream and chocolate lava cake. For those of you looking to dine out with family,High Point will end all debates as there’s something for everyone on offer.

Meal for two: Rs 750 (excluding tax). Location: SCO 170-171,Sector 17,Chandigarh. Contact: 5078183
