MC faces odd problem at dumping ground site

A bulldozer is used to level the ground. However,the leveling has been done in such a manner that the dumping ground has developed a slant.

Complaints to officials of the Municipal Corporation,however,seem to have fallen on deaf ears. The slant of the dumping ground would have to be corrected before the onset of rains in order to prevent problems for the people.

The residents of the area have already been complaining about dirty water entering into the area. A proposal for having a storm water drainage system in the area had been mooted. Work is yet to be initiated.

Area councillor Kamlesh said that when the dumping ground was made,she had asked for the slant to be on the other side.

“The design of the dumping ground was faulty. If a slope develops,leachate would enter into the colony. Due to its proximity with the dumping ground the colony is filled with mosquitoes and flies. It is a health hazard for the residents. The officials should take immediate action and rectify the problem,” she said. The civic body had proposed that in the coming years there would be a need for another dumping ground. Land would have to be acquired for the purpose.

Land had been identified for the purpose. However,a final nod is awaited.

Questions had been raised about the need for another dumping ground site. It was pointed that the existing dumping ground was filling up faster than what was projected.
