MC demolition drive at Sadar market

The Municipal Corporation held a demolition drive in Sadar Market,Sector 19,wherein 26 structures were demolished.

The Municipal Corporation (MC) held a demolition drive in Sadar Market,Sector 19,wherein 26 structures were demolished. The encroachers had built permanent structures for commercial purpose on MC land that were covered with tin sheds.

The structures were demolished today by the staff from the Enforcement Wing of the Municipal Corporation amidst heavy police presence. JCB machines were deployed for the purpose.

The structures had been constructed over the past few years and the encroachers were running their businesses from here. These were blocking the area earmarked for a passage.

Due to this, there was no way left for emergency services to reach the market in case of a mishap. However, two structures at the entrance of the passage could not be demolished due to a stay order from court.

The market had become a hub of encroachers. While earlier attempts were being made to remove the encroachers, they used to show stay orders from the courts.

Municipal Corporation officials then started scanning the records of the owners of these booths and found that the stay had been vacated for some of them.

When the civic body tried to demolish the structures, there were protests in the market and some shop owners got stay orders. There was interference from political parties too to stop the demolition.
