Mayor Amarjit Singh Jiti Sidhu Saturday formally inaugurated the redevelopment work of the old chowk located in Mataur village. The project, to be executed at an estimated cost of around Rs 3.25 lakh, aims to improve the chowk’s overall structure and enhance traffic movement in the area.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Sidhu lauded the efforts of Shaheed Kartar Singh Club president Teji, Ravi Arora, and other office-bearers, stating that they have been serving the village in a organised and dedicated manner. He said development works are being carried out based on the suggestions provided by the club for the welfare of the village.

The mayor said that addressing the maximum possible civic works for residents remains the top priority of the Mohali Municipal Corporation and assured that no compromise would be made in the quality of development projects. He added that the corporation is fully committed to strengthening basic civic amenities in Mataur and surrounding areas.

On the issue of municipal elections and ward delimitation, Mayor Sidhu alleged that the present government is attempting to take control of the Municipal Corporation by “reshuffling and manipulating ward boundaries”. However, he asserted that “no matter how much ward delimitation is done, the Congress party will win more seats than before and continue to retain control of the Municipal Corporation”.

He said that people make their choices based on development, and the ongoing works in Mataur clearly demonstrate that the Congress party is working at the grassroots level while staying connected with the public.
