The five-match series is level 1-1 and while South Africa have not had the greatest of times in this format since finishing runners-up in the 2024 T20 World Cup, they would be buoyed by how they have fared on this tour, pushing India to the limit in the preceding ODI series and whitewashing 2-0 in the Test series before that.

India, meanwhile, have taken themselves to a different in the shortest format since winning the title in 2024. However, there are a few teething issues that have crept up in recent months, chief of which is the form of captain Suryakumar Yadav and vice-captain Shubman Gill. The lack of solid contribution from the opening led to India’s tactic of keeping their batting order apart from the top two flexible backfiring a bit in the second T20I.

However, it will be a surprise if India make any changes to their squad based on one defeat alone. Hardik Pandya hit the ground running in the first match after a lengthy break and India would be dependent on him to provide that balance again if their top order fails.
