With their film ready for Friday verdict, the two young actors confidence shines through their friendly banter
While watching the promos of Band Baaja Baarat, what strikes us immediately is the chemistry and banter between Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh aka Shruti and Bittoo, respectively. When we meet them in reality,we know it is their real-life friendship thats transformed so well on screen. We find the two constantly pulling each others leg, while also being supportive. Ranveer is one of the best actors I have come across and of course he is an eye candy. Nice to have a good looking guy on the sets, grins Sharma,as we take a walk around the Yash Raj Films studio premises. Singh promptly returns the compliment by terming her a natural at acting. Of course, she is also eye candy, he responds.
The most impressive, however,is their endless energy. There are about three weeks to go for their films release,on December 10,but the two appear calm and confident of their work. While Singh is the debutant hoping to make a mark in Bollywood,Sharma is sitting pretty with two average hits to her credit Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Badmaash Company. But a common thread binding them is their association with YRF. As we make our way to the YRF garden, the two greet the staff and make small talks with the inhouse editors and technicians. Singh is sporting a T-shirt with Girl Next Door printed on it. He looks at it and points to Sharma. The actress is quick to react,I am the hottie next door, she says and walks to the lawn. Their assistants follow them with juices and for touch-ups. YRF is like home, says Sharma whose current film with the production house is the last in her contract. I had lots of fun shooting for this film. We were in Delhi for a month and we shot in unexplored locations. Everything about our movie is so fresh. Also our hero, she winks as she parks herself on the lawn outside. Singh responds with a Thank you, and smiles wryly.
Singh, born and brought up in Mumbai, always wanted to be an actor. Since he is from a non-filmi background,he decided against it and dabbled in copywriting for a bituntil he discovered his true calling at an acting class in USA. I came back and gave an audition at YRF. I was called many times to be tested for my dance, emoting and acting skills, before they finally signed me on, says Singh. The 25-year-old still finds it hard to believe that his debut film is ready to release. The other day we went on the sets of Kaun Banega Crorepati, and I couldnt believe that I was hanging out with Amitabh Bachchan, he says and looks skywards. I cannot forget November 19,2009,when I was confirmed for the role of Bittu, he says joining his hands in gratitude.
Singhs excitement is obvious, but what surprises us most is Sharmas confession about how she still finds it difficult to handle stardom. I never wanted to be an actor. Rab Ne happened by chance. When the movie released,I couldnt handle so much attention. I was in a state of depression for a month because I did not like people commenting on me, she says,to which Singh gives a shocked expression. But Anushka is the one who taught me to be chilled out and be spontaneous while giving a shot, says the debutant actor, who has also signed a three-film deal with YRF.
Sharma and Singh play wedding planners in the movie and as their signature mark they have a dance performance at the end of every wedding. Tell Singh that their dance moves are much appreciated and he immediately starts dancing to Aviyan Aviyan. Dance is what I love the most, says Singh. Sharma agrees,He is the most uninhibited person ever. You can ask him to dance anywhere and he will do it.
