Maninder,Rahul stars in MCA victory

YPS won the toss and elected to field first.

MOHALI: Maninder’s stellar all-round show (66 runs and 3 for 31) and Rahul’s brilliant batting performance helped Mohali Cricket Association (MCA) beat Yadavindra Public School (YPS) Academy,Mohali,by 16 runs in the first Mohali Cup played at the MCA ground on Friday. YPS won the toss and elected to field first. The MCA team was served well by Rahul and Maninder who played quickfire knocks to help the team post a challenging total of 276 runs for the loss of six wickets in 40 overs. Arshdeep bagged three wickets for YPS Academy. Chasing the target,the YPS team fell short of the target by 16 runs as they could muster only 260 runs. Angad was the top scorer for the team with 53 runs. Arshdeep also batted well and contributed 42 runs to the team total. Maninder and Suraj bowled well as they shared six wickets between them. Both took three wickets each.

Inter-media cricket tourney on anvil

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Press Club will organise an inter-media cricket tournament during the third week of March,according to Nalin Acharya,the general secretary. Interested media organizations are requested to send a list of their teams along with an entry fee of Rs 1500 to the general manager,Chandigarh Press Club by March 15. Only members of the Press Club will be eligible to take part in the tournament.

Junior Nationals wrestling C’ship in May

CHANDIGARH: As many as 800 wrestlers will be seen in action during the 32nd Junior boys (Freestyle and Greco-Roman) and 15th Female (Freestyle) junior wrestling championships to be held at Sector 10 Rink Hall from May 9 to 12. According to Darshan Lal,general secretary of Chandigarh UT Wrestling Association,more than 800 wrestlers,including girls,from 25 states and Union Territories will compete in the two junior nationals. The weighing-in and medical will be done on May 9 while bouts will be held on May 10 to 12 from 8 am onwards. The Wrestling Federation of India is likely to select the Indian probables for the national coaching camps for the forthcoming international competitions. Meanwhile,the Chandigarh State Junior Wrestling Championship will be hosted on April 11 and 12. The first two position holders in each category will attend a coaching camp. The Chandigarh team will also be selected during the state coaching camp.

Senior state netball meet from March 12

CHANDIGARH: Netball Association of Chandigarh will conduct the Chandigarh Senior State Netball Championship at Government College,Sector 11,Chandigarh on March 12 and 13. All the players have to report for the matches at 8.30 am in the college premises. Without Identity Card,no one would be allowed to participate in any match. The entry forms of the players duly verified by respective Principal with father’s name,date of birth,class with section,admission no.,address,phone no.,signature,may be forward to Dr. Parshant Das,assistant professor,Department of Physical Education at the College or be can be contacted at 9501555884 on or before March 9 up to 5 pm. The fixture can be collected on March 11 at 5pm from the office of Department of Physical Education of the College.
