It seems the recent exposure during Border-Gavaskar scholorship in Brisbane (Australia) worked wonders for Jalandhar stalwart batsman Mandeep Singh. He looked in stunning form against Chandigarh,smashing breathtaking 154 runs on the first day of a match during U-19 Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament for Dhruv Pandove being played at Sector 16 stadium in Chandigarh.
Batting first,Jalandhar batsmen riding high on Mandeep Senior (154) and Mandeep Junior (72) plundered a total of 375 for the loss of seven wickets in 95 overs. Defying the hot and sultry conditions,the Mandeep duo tore apart the Chandigarh bowling attack. Leading from the front,the U-19 World Cup star,Mandeep Singh Senior was in aggressive mood in particular. After losing two quick wickets for 34 runs in 14.2 overs,it was third-wicket partnership of 216 runs between the two Mandeeps that brought back Jalandhar on the track. Chandigarh team heaved a sigh of relief on Mandeep Singh Senior’s return to the pavilion when left-arm spinner Gurinder Singh bowled the in-from batsman. He hit 154 runs off 161 balls aided with 19 brilliantly executed boundaries and two lofty sixes. Mandeep Jr. who had been giving solid company to Mandeep Sr. was the next man out at 253 when he was run out for 72 off 227 balls. Jalandhar lost another quick wicket when Gurinder foxed Siddharth Sharma with a slower one and snapped him off his own bowling before opening his account. At this stage Jalandhar were 259 for 5 in 75.5 overs. Batting in the lower order,Himanshu Satyawan contributed with unbeaten knock of 48 runs to take Jalandhar to 375 at the end of the day’s play.

Manoj shines for Bathinda
In the second match played at PCA Stadium,Mohali’s Manoj Kumar bowled impressively and wrecked the Bathinda innings taking five wickets to restrict them at 295 in the first innings. Mohali lost two quick wickets for 26 in 12 overs. It was 86-run partnership between Birkanwar Singh and Saurabh Chopra propelled the Mohali innings. Soonafter,Mohali were reduced to 143 for 5 in 48.3 overs. Then sixth-wicket stand of 108 runs in 22.1 overs between Birkanwar Singh and Soharab Dhaliwal turned the tide for Mohali. Birkanwar Singh who had been batting resolutely was caught by Harjit off Pawan Dabas after completing a match saving century (107) off 174 balls studded with 14 fours. After his exit Mohali were in trouble. Mohalis innings ended at 295 for all in 89.2 overs. In reply,were 35 for no loss in 11 overs.

Amritsar in trouble
In the third match played at Amritsar between Ropar and Amritsar,Ropar winning the toss opted to bat and were bundled out for 145 in 56.1 overs. They were sitting pretty at 122 for 3 in 41 overs. Then Kamal Passi came up with a brilliant spell in which he claimed four wickets in two overs up-setting Ropars progress. For Ropar Tanvir (44),Manpreet (22) and Arjun (22) were the main scorers. Kamal Passi (5 for 45),Ashu (2 for 26) and Vinay Chaudhary (2 for 29) were the main wicket takers for Amritsar. Batting second,Amritsar had scored 116 for the loss of five wickets in 37.3 overs. Jatinder (3 for 37) was the most successful bowler for Ropar.

In the fourth match played at Patiala,the bowling combination of Bhavish Goel (5 for 46),and Amaninder Singh (4 for 83) rattled Ludhiana,bowling them out at 201 in 84.4 overs. It was just Sunny Pandey (45) who showed some resistence for Ludhiana. In reply Patiala were 18 for the loss of one wicket at the close of days play.
