Manali gets first snowfall,mercury dips

While tourist towns of Manali,Narkanda and Kufri experienced the season’s first snowfall on Friday,Shimla shivered under an intense cold wave with a hailstorm and light sleet turning parts of the town white.

According to reports,entire Manali was covered in a thick blanket of snow,bringing life to a standstill early this morning. Rohtang pass and other higher reaches also experienced heavy snowfall.

During the day,vehicular traffic was hit on the Hindustan Tibet Road with light snowfall at Narkanda,Fagu and Kufri. Kharapatther,on the other hand,experienced light snowfall.

Jakhu hill in Shimla and residents in adjacent localities also woke up to a snowy morning with rooftops and vehicles being covered by a white sleet. Thunderstorm,rains and light hail followed,as cold winds lashed the state capital,bringing the temperature down to 4.5 degrees Celsius.

Kalpa in Kinnaur also experienced snowfall. The entire Lahaul valley,higher reaches of Chamba,Spiti and Kinnaur have been experiencing moderate to heavy snowfall for the last few days. While minimum temperature recorded at Kalpa was 0.6 degrees C,it stood at 0.9 degrees C in Keylong.
