(File photo) A man was found dead near the Quami Insaaf Morcha protest site in Mohali Wednesday (April 12) morning. Though the exact cause of death could not be ascertained yet, the police said no foul play had come to light.
The police identified the deceased as Jagtar Singh, 65, a resident of Raipur village in Mohali. He was unmarried and lived with his brother’s family in his native place, the police added.
The Quami Insaaf Morcha has been protesting in Mohali since the beginning of the year, demanding the release of Sikh prisoners.
Gurcharan Singh, an organiser of the morcha, told The Indian Express that Jagtar Singh had actively participated in the farm agitation last year and was an active member of the ongoing protest. He added that Jagtar Singh had consumed tea in the morning and then went for a stroll near the morcha site.
“A woman, part of the morcha, discovered a man lying in the forest area near the morcha site. When we checked, we identified him and informed the police,” Gurcharan Singh said.
