Hit and run : 60-year-old was hit by car,PCR van never reached,says passerby
A 60-year-old ex-serviceman from Manimajra died after being hit by a car and lying injured on the road with no police help reaching on time.
It was finally one Captain Piyush who managed to get through to the police control room around 12.05 pm. The police said they immediately flashed the message to PCR van 5,but it failed to reach on time,said Shoorvir.
Meanwhile,the victim was admitted in the hospital at 12.35 pm,according to hospital records,and was gasping for breath. Doctors who attended to him in the emergency ward said he succumbed to injuries after a few minutes.
Shoorvir,who was there in the hospital till 1.45 pm,said neither any PCR van nor any policeman came to the hospital to inquire about the matter. I was called to the Sector 7 police post around 4.30 pm where they asked me to give details of the accident, he added. The victim was an ex serviceman and had served 7,Garhwal Rifles. He is survived by his wife and a son.
While Superintendent of Police Maneesh Choudhary was unavailable for comments,the control room was also not forthcoming with any information. We did receive a call and sent the communication forward. No PCR reverted about the matter. It is not our job to keep track of the PCRs. We are on ‘VIP’ duty,so please excuse us, said a policeman who refused to identify himself.
