Man commits suicide

A rickshaw-puller allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Sector 48 on Tuesday morning. The police said the victim was identified as 35-year-old Munna Ram of Jagatpura village in Mohali. He is survived by his wife and four children.

Munna reportedly came home drunk last night and quarrelled with his wife over his drinking habits. He went out of the house around 10 pm and never came back. Ruling out any foul play,SHO of Sector 31 police station,Inspector Bakhshish Singh,said no visible injury marks were found on the body.

The victim’s wallet carrying Rs 10,along with a watch,was found on the body. The police received information about the incident at 7.15 am. They said Munna climbed on a bicycle to hang himself. His wife has been informed and the body has been shifted to hospital for post mortem. Inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code have been initiated in this connection.
