This year’s first Lok Adalat will be held on Saturday. Around 20,000 cases, including a large number of traffic challans,as well as pre-litigation cases are likely to be settled then. Aiming to reduce the pendency of cases, the Lok Adalats are expected to draw a large number of litigants.

A total of 10,000 summons pertaining to traffic challans have been issued by the court of Judicial Magistrate Deepak Raj Garg. Lok Adalats are increasingly becoming popular among traffic violators. The settlement of traffic challans at minimal prices lures maximum traffic violators to these adalats.

“A lot of backlog is expected to be cleared at the Lok Adalat tomorrow. Around 2500 pre-litigation cases, which are yet to reach the court, will also be settled. Besides,5000 cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act are likely to be disposed off,” a court official said. The other categories of cases to be taken up in the Lok Adalat include motor accident claims, compoundable criminal offences, matrimonial disputes under Hindu Marriage Act,petty offences under Special Enactments,Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act and cases relating to road accident cases, among others.
