Upholding an order of the district forum,the UT State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission directed United India Insurance Company on Friday to pay Rs 1.25 lakh towards the total damage of a truck.
The complainant,Sanjay Ahlawat,said he had insured his truck for Rs 6,75,000 in 1998. It was,however,badly damaged in an accident in 1999,after which,he lodged a claim with the company.
The surveyor appointed by the insurance company,after inspecting the vehicle declared that it a case of total loss. The complainant,however,alleged he was forced to settle the claim at Rs 4 lakh. The insurance company,in its reply,denied any deficiency and said the paid amount was according to the surveyors assessment.
Admitting it to be a case of total loss of vehicle,the UT State Commission today dismissed the appeal of the insurance company with costs of Rs 5,000.
