INSO,ABVP announce panels for PU elections

A day before the final date of filing nominations,student organisations including the Indian National Student Organisation (INSO) and Akhil Bhartiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP) announced their presidential candidates for the student council elections scheduled for September 4

A day before the final date of filing nominations,student organisations including the Indian National Student Organisation (INSO) and Akhil Bhartiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP) announced their presidential candidates for the student council elections scheduled for September 4.

ABVP has announced a girl student,Arunika Mishra,from University Institute of Legal Sciences (UILS) as the presidential candidate. Mishra,who hails from Chandigarh,has been associated with the party for an year.

The party has announced another girl,Disha Arora,from the Department of English as the vice-president. Talking about the decision to select girl candidates,Sumeet Randhawa,Organising Secretary,ABVP said,“PU has never seen a girl president. We wanted to give girls this important opportunity this time.”

Among other announcements made,the party declared Sahil Batra,a student of University Business School (UBS) as the General Secretary and Sanjay Sharma,from the Department of Sanskrit as the Joint Secretary.

Meanwhile,INSO announced Amit Sihmar,from the Department of Laws,as presidential candidate. Sihmar,a student of LLM,has been an active member of the party since the last 4 years and has also remained president of SD College Student Council.

“Once elected,I will ensure maximum students get hostel facilities,since this is one of the biggest problems students face in the university,” said Sihmar,who hails from Jind in Haryana.

The other panel members selected include Dr Abha,from the Centre of Public Health as the vice- president,Mohammad Iqbal,from the Department of Economics as the General Secretary and Aditi from the Department of English as the Joint Secretary.

Other student organisations who have not declared their panels yet include Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU),Panjab University Student Union (PUSU),Student Organisation of India (SOI),Student Federation of India (SFI),Hindustan Student Association (HSA) are slated to make the announcements on Friday.
