Nothing encourages fun learning like short, entertaining camps. Whether it’s chess,art,yoga,mathematics,cooking,multi-media,dance or social skills, the young ones can choose from an array of options.

In Sector 8,Panchkula,Sheena Harjani and Daizy Goyal are hosting winter classes at their institute Pitara for Kids. The aim of the 15-day course,Harjani states,“is to inculcate a learning spirit in the student, even when he/she is away from school”. The activities that emphasise on the overall development of the child include card-making,yoga,dance,cookery,gift wrapping and classes that improve general knowledge. “The idea is to keep the toddlers busy in a productive and interactive manner,” says Harjani.

At Coveda,Sector 18,Anupama Neogi is engaging students with mathematics. “Children in the age group of seven to 12 are introduced to a new world of numbers. This is done through caricatures, theater, songs and story-telling,” says Neogi, adding that the camp is designed to encourage students to look at numbers with a fun perspective and give them an experience of applying theorems.

For those interested in theater,Go Bananas Kids Club is hosting a winter camp at The British School,Sector 44. Being held from 11.00 am to 1.30 pm,the classes conducted by theater artist Rajnish Sharma are intended to “allow children to discover the artist within”. Sharma says that the camp emphasises on creative arts for the little ones and also features sessions like story-telling,debating,mimicry,role-play and voice modulation. “A picnic is also part of the camp,” says Anu Vala, director of Go Bananas Kids Club.

Meanwhile,at Rajshree Sharda and Gagan Preet Chauhan’s academy Spiritu-all in Sector 7,Panchkula,children are learning how to cook and bake, make things and make friends at the camp over activities like Lime dance. “This is a new form of dance that is gained popularity. We will also teach the basics of salsa, belly dance, jazz, fusion and contemporary dance forms. Table etiquette will also be taught,” says Chauhan.

“These activity centres help fill the gap between home and school,” says Gurpreet Sekhon, director of Jelly Bean Junction,Sector 35,a multiple activity

centre for children. She is organising classes in yoga and aerobics, among others. “The emphasis is on fulfilling the social, physical and psychological requirements of a child,” she adds.
