Farmers associations hail MHA decision
Various farmer organisations from across UT villages met today at Attawa village to highlight and discuss the problems being faced by them. They demanded that the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill be applicable on past acquisitions also. The issue of cancellation of illegal votes in the colonies as well as extension of Lal Dora area was also brought up.
All the sarpanches and members of the farmer associations including Brig Kahlon exhorted the Administration to include them in the ongoing probes ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Central Vigilance Commission,so that guilty officers are booked irrespective of the position they hold.
Speaking on the occasion,Col S S Sandhu,vice-president of the Manimajra Farmers Welfare and Environment Protection Society (Regd) described the MHA order as the beginning of an end of the corrupt and exploitative land acquisition policy of the government.
The farmers also rued that the Administration had failed to implement the National Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy (NRRP 2007) in letter and spirit.
In fact, the UT Administration has gone to the extent of subverting NRRP 2007 by coming out with a localised policy named National Rehabilitation and Resettlement Scheme,2009,which has taken away the substantive provisions of the policy, the farmers echoed.
Former sarpanch of Sarangpur,Sadhu Singh, stated that the UT Administration has been acquiring land in haste and arbitrarily in the garb of public purpose ever since Gen Rodrigues took over as the Administrator.
President of the Pind Bachao Committee called upon the candidates to spell out their manifestos and explain what they can do for the farmers of the city.
