The interviews being conducted by the Punjab Technical University (PTU) Jalandhar for various senior posts have come under scanner for alleged faulty selection of candidates. Interviews were conducted on Monday and today for the posts of dean and controller of examination respectively.

As per AICET Regulations, for the post of dean the eligibility is first class marks in graduation and for controller of examination,8 years work experience under 12000-18300 payscale with any good college or institute is required.

Incidentally, for the post of dean, the PTU has set different eligibility criteria for candidates from different streams as those with engineering background required first class, management candidates needed second class with 55 per cent marks only. The two non-shortlisted candidates interviewed for dean’s post are Dr PK Sharma and Dr RK Mishra. The name of Bhushan Kumar was included in the list of shortlisted candidates just a day before the interview.

When asked why eligible candidates were not shortlisted and why non-shortlisted were finally interviewed for the dean’s post,PTU VC Dr Rajneesh Arora refused to comment.

Incidentally,PTU had put the names of shortlisted candidates on its website just two days before the interview began.

Dr Nachhattar Singh, advisor to PTU VC,was shortlisted for the dean’s post but withdrew his name at the last moment because he did not meet the eligibility criteria, while for the post of controller of examination, three candidates, who didn’t meet the eligibility criteria, withdrew their names.

Incidentally, two of these three candidates have been shortlisted by PTU for the post of registrar, the interview of which would be conducted on February 5.

When asked why some shortlisted candidates withdrew their names,Arora said it was their choice.

A written complaint regarding such faulty shortlisting has been made to the Director Technical Education Punjab and Secertary,Technical Education Punjab by some candidates.
