Woman commits suicide
A married woman committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Baldevnagar,Ambala City,on Saturday. The deceased,identified as Sapna,was mother of two children. Domestic dispute has been cited as the reason behind her taking the extreme step. Her husband Sunny said no one was present at the house during the incident. Body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
Kumari Selja to visit flood-hit areas
Union Minister for Tourism and Poverty Alleviation,Kumari Selja,after addressing the delegation of Congress workers at Ambala Cantonment Congress Bhawan,will go round the flood -affected areas of the town,including Sadar Bazar,bus stand,Cross Road Number 12 and other slum areas,to review the relief work done by the authorities after floods. She would then visit the wholesale cloth market and other areas,which suffered the most in Ambala. She would then attend the officers meeting to review the reports prepared by officials concerned with losses in the floods and quantum of relief to be given to victims.
DC appeals to people for aid
Divisional Commissioner Anil Kumar appealed to the people of Ambala,especially the members of the Phoenix Club,to extend their cooperation to the Administration in the cleanliness drive launched after the floods,which created problems of sanitation. Interacting with the media at the club meeting on Saturday,he said the survey was being conducted to assess the damage done by the floods in the districts of Ambala,Kurukshetra,Kaihal,Yamunananagar and Panchkula,so that people could be compensated. He said families of those who died in the floods have been granted Rs 3 lakh each by the state government and the Red Cross Society. He urged the Health Department to take measures to provide medical services to save people from diseases,which spread after the floods.
